Application service providers (commonly referred to as ASP's) have quickly sprouted onto the web hosting scene in effort to provide businesses with new and innovative services. The term ASP should not be confused with Microsoft Corporations software application.
The number of applications provided through the ASP model is growing. Accordingly, there is a growing business of companies developing software for the ASP marketplace. What sorts of applications are being developed? As remotely-hosted applications can provide cost-effective access for businesses to unique software, many of the applications are designed to be of occasional use in terms of use. Others are geared towards using group connectivity provided by through the Internet to provide an application that is flexible.
For mainframe web hosting applications, ASP service providers are pioneering a new way to host and maintain business applications.
The variety of solutions provided by ASP's is vast. Many ASP's are doing great business in meeting operational needs of companies across different industries and business functions. There are a number of technical and business issues currently addressed by ASP's to develop and enhance system applications.
A major advantage for businesses in seeking ASP services is that they provide an opportunity to reduce costs and increase efficiencies. Companies can have access to a wider-range of software products with the possibility of paying less than an outright purchase through usage charges. This allows businesses to access applications that can service particular business needs so companies can focus on their core operations. Furthermore, ASP's are developing new software that can provide business solutions to operating issues not previously addressed through PC-based software. ASP's also remove many of the technical administrative and maintenance issues associated with software by providing real-time upgrades, remote hosting, remote dial in customer support and overall software management.

The visitors you never knew you had
The importance of web statistics.
Theo Swan
When monitoring your traffic, especially with a large site, you will naturally look at the traffic received related to the keywords you have targeted. But is every visitor likely to be there for the exact same reason? If you take a moment or two to analyze your traffic statistics, youll be surprised at how many visitors you get from odd places or strange search terms.
If you are working actively with targeting specific keywords within your niche, you are no doubt getting your fair share of visitors from the search engines. But, on top of those visitors, you will get search engine traffic from phrases you are not actively targeting. Many of these visitors are most likely derived from searches related to your niche. More often than not however, a web page will have many specific phrases, certain to attract the occasional visitor from Google.
If your site is large enough, or if you are running multiple sites, you are probably getting quite a few hits like this every day. The problem with this kind of traffic is the lack of information, you havent actively tried to attract these people, yet they arrive. But you need to figure out from where they are coming, and most importantly, what page(s) they are landing on.
The easiest way is to look at your statistics, most information will be found there. First off, look at the search terms that have resulted in visitors. Try to find phrases or words NOT specific for your niche, but instead of a more general nature. Or better yet; A phrase that, taken out of context, will be related to something completely different. If you can find enough, similar or related, search terms, odds are you can use these to improve your revenue.
When you have figured out what search terms generate the most traffic, its time to see where they are landing. Do a few searches on ALL major search engines to see the most likely entry pages for each particular query. If you can find one or a few pages often occurring on various queries, you have an excellent opportunity to figure out what these visitors are looking for. If you can, its almost too easy to present them with right on target ads. This way, some of the people will click your ads rather than the back button, thus making you some money.
Sometimes the terms giving you the extra visitors will be easy to translate, hence making it clear what the visitors are really looking for. In these cases, all you need to do is sign up for an affiliate program offering products of interest. In other cases, the terms are of a very general nature, making it less obvious what they are looking for. It is, however, possible to experiment with a few text ads, analyzing what ads attract the most clicks. Most free website statistics software dont enable you to track visitor-behaviour, but if you sign up for Google statistics youll be able to see how many times each link is clicked, making it easy to find an affiliate program matching the visitors you never knew you had.
If you have numerous pages attracting odd visitors, you can easily repeat the above for each page getting enough search engine traffic to make it worth your while.

Linux Web hosting Control Panels compared
Are you intending to host a new website? This article guides you on how to choose between cPanel, Ensim and Plesk Linux web-hosting control panels with an overview of their strengths and weaknesses.
Sospeter Okoth
When choosing a web hosting provider, there are a number of factors to consider. One very important factor is the control panel that comes with the web hosting package. You might ask: Why should the control panel be important? Well, the control panel is important because it determines how accessible the features of the server are to you so as to maximize the benefits to your web site.
Since a number of web-hosts offer hosting on Linux, this article shall give a run down of the types of Linux control panels that are common on the market. We shall compare cPanel, Ensim and Plesk with the aim of helping a user decide on how to choose between the different control panels.
The first and most common control panel is actually called cPanel (from the word control panel). It is the most common type and actually in my opinion it offers the most functionality and user friendliness. Some of the features that make it stand out are the themes which make the control panel very accessible and user friendly. The current version of cPanel also offers quite a number of useful features e.g. a variety of web statistic programs. cPanel also allows multiple file uploads which Ensim does not allow. It also allows automatic installation of other 3rd party programs and scripts via its Fantastico section.
The second type of control panel is Ensim. This control panel has the advantage of being secure since the updates are very strictly controlled from the parent company as compared to the automatic updates of cPanel. Ensim Pro's control panel offers four powerful roles, each with their own roles & responsibilities. Service Provider Administrator manages servers, resellers and sites, Reseller Administrator creates and manages sites on a portion of the server, Site Administrator manages users and site configuration and lastly End User Administrator manages email and supports site as permissions allow. Ensim Pro works for both Windows and Linux servers efficiently. The third type of control panel is Plesk. This control panel has a very beautiful interface. It has a favorites interface for the most recent tasks. Like cPanel, it also has an Updater to aid in maintaining and updating the control panel software. It also allows easy installation of 3rd party software. In terms of features, it easily competes with cPanel. Like Ensim, it also has four user levels: Administrator, Client, Domain Owner and Mail User. Its downside is that not very many servers have it pre-installed as compared to cPanel or Ensim.
Other variants of control panels exist, but the above 3 are the most common. In conclusion, all the 3 control panels have strengths and weaknesses, and the primary factors in deciding which ones to settle for would be price difference and/or availability on the web host's servers.

Webhosting: A Guide
By: Josh Ewin
Published: October 24, 2009
If you want to become a major player in the online business community and increase the size of your business, developing a website is a necessity. After you have thought of the idea, it is important to continue and consider a domain name and then give proper thought to where you should host your new website. There are many hosts out there so choosing the right one is important which is why you should consider the following advice about web hosting.
How would you define web hosting?
Web hosting is far more than just a domain; it is a collection of files that are linked by means of HTML code that enables the text and graphics to come together on a computer to show what a website is truly about. Having a computer with special software will enable you the opportunity to save your made files and let others see, as long as they have internet access. In broad and basic terms, web hosting is when someone rents space that is found on a web server. The web server is where a computer makes the requests for files that have been previously stored there. The server is also able to pass on the files to the internet which enables them to be viewed on a computer that requests them. There are similarities to be drawn between a waiter in a restaurant and the term "server."
There are many services that are provided by a web server. It has the ability to display files to other people surfing the internet and it can provide further uses. These may include offering the ability to generate email accounts and addresses that are relevant to the domain name which will allow the sending and receiving of emails. In addition to this provision, the ability to make and control databases, show moving images and a number of other options are provided to the user. It does not matter about the computer as the software is what is important in making a server.
I don't need to say that the monthly payment you make after purchasing a web hosting is needed for the purpose of maintaining and upgrading the server's hardware and software. It also includes the charge of keeping it online all the time in a secure data center with the aid of a fast Internet connection, and the payment of the people who are doing all these. One can surely roll his or her computer into a web server as soon as it is decided but the idea of entrusting a dedicated person (for this job) with this job is often a better and reasonable one. It requires you to pay that person but it is ideal if the person does it in a reliable manner.
Different Kinds of Web Hosting
Shared Hosting- Although there are websites such as Yahoo! which are able to provide access for everyone on the internet, it is more common for a site to have a narrower target market, which means they don't require an almost infinite amount of pages. This means that the complete services of a web server is not required by the majority of web sites. It is said that in excess of 95% of the websites that are available are hosted on shared hosting sites. This is where more than a single website is held on a specific server and this method costs less than a dedicated hosting service. This is due to the fact that is spreads resources and costs over a number of different users. The reduction in cost is a reason for its popularity and shared, or virtual, hosting allows every client to have an agreed proportion of the resources available on the server. Depending on how much resources are being used, with respect to number of email accounts, amount of disk space being used, size of bandwidth, the price will vary accordingly.
Dedicated Hosting- When you feel the need of having lots of visitors for your big website or you think about dominating resources or feel antipathy towards sharing the server with anyone else who might crash it, you need a web server that is entirely dedicated to you. So, dedicated hosting is all about renting the service of an entire server. Ownership of machine and responsibility for maintaining the hardware and the web hosting software still remains in the realm of the web hosting company but you gain control over the configuration and use of the server. Semi-dedicated hosting is another interesting term where a web server extends service to 2-4 clients with a strong line of demarcation between them. This is also treated as managed hosting for here hosting company maintains the server. Having clarified all the ins and outs, it goes without saying that dedicated hosting is more expensive than shared hosting.
Server Co-Location- If money was no object, a great option is to contain everything within your own web server and domain and this can be done by buying a server and looking after it yourself. However, there are many issues that can arise from this and would you be able to react to power shortages, natural disasters, floods, break ins, staff error and many other problems that may cause problems? All of these issues may prevent your server from running on a speedy internet connection but help is at hand from a data center. Placing your server in a secure outlet with a guaranteed power source and reliable and fast internet connection is called a Co-location. This situation placed the client in charge of maintaining the software and hardware needs of the server as the data center will not become involved in this issue. If a client has the talent, ability and hours to look after this form of server, it can be an improved and less expensive variant compared to dedicated hosting.
UNIX Hosting- Although variations of web hosts have been mentioned it is more accurate to say that different version of the UNIX server is where the majority of web servers are run on. The UNIX system was pushed by universities as a method to assist servers and networks. The open source nature of the UNIX operating system has enabled technically minded people to gain the code for the system and produce variations of it. The popular ones of BSD and Linux that are part of the UNIX system have produced variations such as Red Hat Linux, Debian, FreeBSD and SuSE. This means that UNIX hosting is a low cost and highly efficient operating system for web hosts to get their hands on. This in turn allows the web host to charge a lower price for their services. Key benefits of the UNIX hosting platform is that the software will allow users the ability to complete a great number of programming applications and the platform is generally considered to be secure, reliable and packing a mighty punch. The phrase 'UNIX hosting' now comes to mean any platform that has been derived from the traditional form if UNIX.
Windows Hosting- There are clearly many products developed by Microsoft and Windows Server 2003 is one of them. In order to operate this product, a license needs to e bought and this raises costs and increases prices. Even with this cost, this type of operating system supplied by Windows is not as powerful and is less secure than the UNIX version. Products such as ASP, ColdFusion or ASP.NET are extremely popular for a number of applications and can only be run on a server like Microsoft SQL Server or Access. If you wish to use these features there is a requirement to have a host who uses Windows.

The way to go about making your presence known in the virtual jungle is to make your own website. Websites usually range from being simply informational to being fully functional. Some businesses only have websites so you can learn about their business firsthand while others have fully operational online shopping sites where you can buy their products and have them delivered to you by mail. But no matter what kind of website a company has, however, there is always one thing in common: a web host.
What are Web hosts?
Web hosts are online companies that provide people with all the elements they need in order to make their own website available online. Basically, web hosts are the hard drives of those who have websites. Web hosting companies own servers which store all the data present in web sites. In a way, its just like a remote storage space.
One kind of web host that is very popular are the free web hosts. You won't have to give money in order to use them. However, they won't give you much storage space. Another type of web host are dedicated servers. With dedicated servers, you will have close to unlimited storage space and great privacy. However, these cost much. So its really up to you which one you prefer.

When It Comes To Web Hosts, Which Ones Are The Best?
By: Logan Oulman
Published: June 8, 2010
If you have made the decision to create a website for yourself then the next step is to find out which providers are the best at web hosting. How do you find out who the best web hosts are? What steps are required to make sure you're getting the best website host for your own website?
Well, here's my opinion - there's four important issues to consider.
Downtime Is Near Zero
Rapidity
Offer Great Support
Attributes and cost
So, using these four requirements, who is considered the best provider? Actually, there really isn't a clear winner here. Today the majority of top web hosts will offer just about zero downtime. With the technology and equipment they have, your website will stay up and running practically 99.9% of the time. You'll find the majority of the top web hots are extremely fast. You would have a tough time seeing much of a difference between them in the performance of your website.
When it's your first website, having the kind of support you need is a vital issue for web hosting. A lot of times you'll find someone who is not happy with a certain host it's because of a support problem. However, I've found that it's not about the web host, but more about the what choice the person made for the best support option. I recently read a review that wasn't favorable for a host I considered good, and then found out the user who complained had chosen email support for answers he needed back quickly. It would have been a much better decision to employ instant chat support for that particular situation. You'll find the majority of top hosts will offer video help files, instant chat, and other support options.
Be aware that it's sometimes hard to pick the best web hosting companies based on what features are offered. Overall, you'll find the majority offer excellent webmaster tools and applications that are priced quite reasonably. Most all of them have a guarantee of some kind they offer.
So to sum it all up the best web host provider will give you a great home for your website, that has excellent support and features, and all at a low price. All of the tools you need to successfully operate your website are offered by most of the top hosts today, I am proud to say.

What Hosting Is Best For A Business
By: James Pres

When a company uses their computers as servers, they are web hosting. Other computers link to these computers as a means of running their websites. The servers store important web pages and other essential information. The styles of web hosts are numerous.
Though free web hosts are plentiful, there are some drawbacks. One-page sites and blogs are fine, but if running a business, there is very little technical support. Also when starting a business on a free web host account, there may be difficulties encounter as one may eventually need to move to a paid host server and it can be a pain. Idealistically starting with a fee based host is best for a business to anticipate growth.
The most used web hosts happens to be shared. This is due to low costs and the customer support is generally quite good. There are some drawbacks as users are sharing a central processor; the potential for security breaches is multiplied because there are so many on a server.
In dedicated business hosting, a fee is paid as it would be where a server is shared. There are some sites where it is paid every month and some, where it is paid yearly. There are companies that skew their servers for small and medium sized businesses. Go over what a business needs and insure the server that is chosen has enough bandwidth to offer necessary support.
Cloud host servers offer a newer way to run a website. It is different because the way it is paid for is determined by how much one actually uses.
The choices for web hosts are extensive and any one person or company looking to invest in a server needs to decide if their host needs to be dedicated, shared, and even free. There are ways in which they are advantageous, but also in which they are helpful. A full review is needed and a five-year business plan can help make the decision easier.

Website Hosts That Have A Help Desk
By: Guy Kingsley
Published: June 15, 2010
Choosing the web host provider for your website can be a difficult task. There are so many different options to consider. Most people might not even be able to think of all of the different factors that will make them satisfied with their web host. One thing that most might not think of is technical support. If you want to be able to speak with a real person at a help desk then make sure that this is a service your web host provider offers. Many companies have moved away from this and have started using live support chats.
If your website has crashed and you can not figure it out then you will go to your provider. If this is a network wide issue then you probably won't be able to get help if they only use an online chat support. Often times, these chats are only run by one person. If they get a lot of requests at once they have to be put into a queue. With too many users at one time, those requests will not be met in a reasonable amount of time.
Many web hosts offer programs that they do not support. These are often programs used to make web pages. Because the host has not actually made the program, they will not support it. This is because of a liability issue. If this program in any way harms your computer, the web host does not want to be responsible.
The hosts that provide free page makers are often just suggesting the use of the program. The software will not be supported by the hosting company. It is probably a better idea to purchase a web building program so that there is phone support available in case that there are problems with the software.
Most documentation for older programs will no longer exist. If you feel that this would be a problem then it might be a good idea to get a page building program at a retail store. This way, if you do have any problems, then you know you can get help in more than one place. The first place would be the technical support department. The other would be that, if it is new software, there should be a manual with instructions for the software.
With newer software, it will be easier to find help. There will most likely be community bulletin boards with user provided assistance. Some people will often go as far as making a tutorial for other users of the program.
Making the decision of what host to go with, consider what you are paying for. If you are paying one dollar less each month but not getting phone support then it may not be worth it. These services might raised the monthly cost, but it may be worth the price increase.
There is something very comforting when we need help and make a phone call to a help desk. We are able to speak to another human and not some machine. It can be particularly annoying to have to read and type to an online virtual tech person. This can be because sometimes it might not be easily explainable in typed words.

When Deciding On Choosing A Linux Host
By: Dhruv Patel
Published: October 19, 2009
What to know about choosing a Linux host will mean that it is time to take your website presence on the Internet to the next level. Host service providers come in all different flavors and varieties, and some are much more efficient and have greater amounts of what's called "uptime" than others. Taking some time to do a bit of research when it comes to hosting can save a lot of aggravation.
Those people who have businesses that have a website or others who are website entrepreneurs all depend upon a capable and consistent host provider. Choosing the right one can be an important decision, mainly because choosing a bad one could mean that the website is down or will not load quickly or properly if the host provider doesn't have enough going for it to be fairly efficient.
The market for Linux host providers is extremely broad -- meaning there are lot of them -- but not very deep, meaning that there are a relative few that are really high quality. The good providers, knowing this, might try to charge more and an entrepreneur or business will need to decide if it's worth the money, though having a website that performs poorly might not justify the low cost some fly-by-night provider might charge.
The first thing to look at when it comes to choosing a Linux host is how reliable and stable the network it's using will be. Really cheap providers generally tend not to have a very stable network, which can really impact a business and how it and its customers can use the business website. When it gets right down to it, losing money due to aggravated customers or visitors can really sting.
There are plenty of ways to find out the strength of any Linux host provider's network. It's only a matter of a few minutes of research on the Internet looking for a ratings website that gauges a host provider's reliability and performance and then reports out on it. There are several good websites out there that specialize in rating Linux host providers, by the way.
Reliability also goes hand-in-hand with performance in regards to host providers. If the website is slow to upload or it takes a great deal of time to maneuver around within the website dashboard or behind the scenes, it is a distinct possibility that you will be losing customers and website visitors due to the inconvenience they are suffering in trying to get to the website.
Another factor to take into consideration when looking for a good provider is what kind of customer support it provides. How easy is it to contact their support desk? If they take a long time to get back to you when you try to call or e-mail them, it may not be worth the money you're spending to be hosted by them. Lastly, bottom-line cost should always be factored into the equation.
There are several good tips for choosing a Linux host, and many of them are contained above. Always look to see how reliable and performance-ready the provider is before making a decision, and take some time to check out several good ratings websites before handing over any money or entering into a host provider service agreement.

How Does Web Hosting Provider Support You
By: Victoria Nikolayeva
Published: January 29, 2008
When you are ready to purchase a web hosting package and start your own Internet activity then all you have to do is to choose a web hosting provider. There are a lot of criteria to figure out what is best for you. And one the most important (if not the most important) aspect is Support that you can get from the web hosting provider. Before joining any of web hosting providers try to check the Support team on that how qualified and fast the answer to your request will be submitted. Also check if there are many different ways you can get the required information.
Support can be organized in several ways. The most popular and routine support solution among web hosting providers is Database that may contain FAQs (Frequently asked questions), Database and Tutorials. All these Support options contain theoretical information considering web hosting options. All web hosting providers try to make this "Library" as full and reach as possible. Tutorials contain manuals, in case you have any questions you can access any of it and find all necessary information. If you didn't find an answer to your question you can apply to the "advanced" support options. Those are the following: * e-mail makes the most common support option and it is provided by every web hosting provider in the industry. Usually each web hosting provider's department has its own e-mail address like support@web_hosting_provider or billing@ web_hosting_provider etc. So your request is to be considered by a specific area specialist.
* you can also receive support from the web hosting provider by means of submitting Trouble Tickets. They may contain any questions considering your cooperation with web hosting provider and your web site maintaining
* But these two options naturally might take some time for the support team to give you an answer. So many web hosting providers now offer their clients some interactive Support options using which you can receive an answer immediately. Most web hosting providers today provide Toll Free Number and Live Chat. These Support options may not be available 24/7 but still live communication with the web hosting provider support team member may bring you much more effect than any other way of getting information.
So when choosing the web hosting provider to become a client of, pay rapt attention to its support as it is probably one of the most important options for you to consider. See if it is worth to rely on and whether you receive a friendly, qualified and energetic respond. Fraud Is One Of The Things To Hate About Cheap Web Hosting Companies!
By: Dhruv Patel
Published: October 19, 2009
Why do you think that one of the things to hate about cheap web hosting companies is fraud? There must be some genuine reason behind this. Right, there are many reasons. Web hosting today has become very popular and you can find web hosts everywhere.
Web hosts offer various types of services and one of these services is cheap web hosting. You and I prefer cheap stuff and we often avoid expensive products or services. We do this because we do not want to spend our hard earned money and no one would like to spend a lot on anything unless it is important. When we come across cheap web hosting, we get enticed and we think the deal is really cool without even understanding the drawbacks.
Inexpensive things are always alluring and you will be attracted towards its charm but these cheap web hosting companies will not be fruitful. Why do you think that you should not come under any of these traps? Why do you think you should spend more money than become victim of such cheap hosts?
Restrictions will be obligatory for the one who is taking these services. In terms of web space, there would not be extra space as the person will get minimum amount of space. The rules and regulations are dreadful, literally.
There are various disadvantages of cheap web hosting because these are literally fraud as these will not be supportive or cooperative. You will not get good space or any kind of technical support as you will be chained to their restrictions and eccentric terms. Your freedom will be lost and you will suffer when you trust these cheap hosts. So be careful before trusting these hosts.
There will not be any uptime guarantees and no responsibility will be taken by these cheap web hosting agencies. Technical support plays an important role and if you do not get this then what is the use of taking web hosting services from these cheap and low-graded companies who offer big time and show up nothing? On the other hand, cheap services are not at all trustworthy as no one will get good assistance or support as they are not supportive.
To be more precise, these cheap web hosting companies have nothing to do with clients but they have everything to do with money. When money comes, they just kick their clients without any commitment. It is recommended that you should not waste your time after these filthy creatures. It is true that the web hosting companies who charge extra money will provide good services.
You do not have to run here and there in search of support as they will provide great support with all facilities and proper assistance.
They are committed and they will commit for sure unlike cheap hosts. So, do you think cheap web hosting is reliable? No, you do not think that anymore as you know everything about them.

When To Choose A Dedicated Server?
By: Rachel Aniston
Published: September 25, 2009
If you have worked hard to the point where your internet business is developing nicely but you are still carrying out your business on a common server, maybe it is about time you thought about changing to a dedicated server. A dedicated server will offer benefits that a shared server cannot match. When you first start your web site, you can easily start by using a shared server. However, this does restrict bandwidth in addition to storage space, but is usually the most cost efficient option.
So with a shared server, you can reduce costs as you share the server with other websites and this can work out well if you have a small business. As your business starts to prosper or perhaps you create other web sites that relate to your business, it might be time to consider shifting up to a dedicated server. Although it is without doubt a pricey initial outlay, in the long run, it can actually end up saving your money.
There is little as frustrating to clients than not being able to enter your website and this will frequently happen if you do not have enough bandwidth but have lots of visitors to your web site. An increase in the rate that information that can be transferred (bandwidth) and space can offer you many advantages, including: more space for online forums and shopping facilities with a larger database and raised bandwidth to allow for more clients and permit simpler access to the site.
When your online business is growing, or if you have several sites that you have built as revenue sites where you draw income from internet adverts, a dedicated server is probably your best option. If you are a beginner you may consider, the initial set up cost is high, but because you generally hire the equipment and facilities from the service company, you will continue to get updated whenever they do the same to their system and this guarantees that your equipment will not become out-of-date. Apart from the previous advantages, there is also the point that you will be the only person with access to the server. This means you can initiate your own security and keep others from gaining access. Different to a common server, where you are vulnerable for whatever anyone else causes, the dedicated server is entirely yours and no-one else will have admission to the server but you.
There are many options when it comes to choosing a dedicated server. Most cost about 100 dollars monthly and some with more individualized service can be even higher. The type of server you decide on will rely upon your your level of computer knowledge, your low cost in addition to how you want to use your website. There is a large quantity of reliable dedicated servers available on the web today, so when it gets time for you to make your choice, take a good look at the various services available and compare prices. Decide what sort of services and additions you will plan to make to your website before choosing a dedicated server.

Your First Web Hosting Account
By: Mark Waters
Published: January 29, 2008
Setting up a web hosting account for the first time can be confusing and frustrating for the novice. This article will guide you through the steps of setting up a new web hosting account for your website.
Maybe you haven't yet designed your website. Many web hosts offer online website building software that requires no programming or HTML knowledge. If this is your strategy, make sure your web host offers such software, and find out if there's a cost for you to use it.
Locating a web host that gives you the reliability you need, plus excellent customer service, and that offers all the features you're going to need, can be challenging.
You can begin your search by asking business associates, friends and relatives who have websites of their own, who they use. Just as you would get a recommendation for a good restaurant, word of mouth can sometimes steer you in the right direction.
You can also check out the many web hosting directories on the web. These directories are set up to allow you to search using the features that you're looking for in a web host. Keep in mind though, that many of the listings you see may also be paid listings that are pushed your way for obvious reasons.
Once you narrow down your search to a few potential web hosts, your next step will be to visit the many web hosting message boards and forums on the web. Perform a search on each of the potential web hosts that you have in mind - read through the posts and see what other people's experiences have been with the hosts you have in mind. If you see too many negative comments or experiences by others, you might want to take a hint from that and rule out that particular hosting company.
Once you've narrowed down your search to a few web hosts, you should make contact with them and get answers to any questions you have. Since you're a beginner at this, you might strongly consider using a web host that provides telephone support. A web host that provides only email support may not be able to fully answer questions that you have - this applies to sales questions as well as support questions.
When you make your inquires, keep track of which host responds to you the quickest. Which of these hosts answers your questions patiently and takes the time to go over details with you? Do they seem more interested in getting you to sign up, or do they address topics you have no concern about, beware of those danger signs.
Most web hosts have multiple plans that you can choose from. The trick is to choose a web hosting plan that provides you the features you actually need, without choosing a plan that offers you features you don't need, or may never use. This is probably the most difficult thing a novice will be faced with when choosing a web host. You'll need to choose a plan that strikes an even balance between what you need right now and what you may need a month or two down the road. Your website might remain the same size as it is today, by next year; however, your site may grow quickly, requiring additional resources in a relatively short period of time.
The last thing you should do before signing up for a web hosting account is to read your web host's AUP (Acceptable Use Policy), and/or their TOS (Terms Of Service), and/or their SLA (Service Level Agreement). Make certain that you understand and agree with your new web host's policies, and that your website does not break any of your new web host's rules and regulations. By not reviewing your new host's contracts with you, you may find your website and email shut down without prior notice for breaking a rule you were not aware of, or you might end up paying for fees you didn't know you were liable for.

What Web Hosts Are The Best?
By: Nathan Oulman

When you have decided to create your own website, you will naturally want to know who are the best web hosting providers. Who are the best web hosts? What steps are required to make sure you're getting the best website host for your own website?
The answer can be narrowed down to four specific issues:
Little interruption of activity
Speed
Good support
Features and price
So who is the best provider based on these requirements? There may not be a clear front-runner. Zero downtime is actually offered by most of the web hosting companies now anyway. Your website will be maintained and able to run nearly 100 percent of the time because of your equipment. The top web hosting providers are very fast. You would have a tough time seeing much of a difference between them in the performance of your website.
If you are beginning your very first web page you should make sure you have good support, as you will need this. A lot of times you'll find someone who is not happy with a certain host it's because of a support problem. Sometimes though, it can simply come down to whether the person who is having the trouble chose the correct support option. I recently read a review that wasn't favorable for a host I considered good, and then found out the user who complained had chosen email support for answers he needed back quickly. It would have been a much better decision to employ instant chat support for that particular situation. Most of the top hosts offer video help files and several support options including instant chat.
It will be a hard task to choose a web hosting provider if you are only going by what features they are offering. All of them will offer a very reasonable price and have the best webmaster tools and applications that you can find. The majority of them also offer some sort of guarantee.
In short the best web hosting providers are the ones that offer a fast, reliable home for your website, with great support and features, at a competitive price. I'm glad to say that most top web hosting providers are successful in providing you with everything needed for a successful website.
